He fitted the ends of the copper cable with clamps that were strong enough to hold the two pieces of metal that he was trying to weld, together. He then used the transformer to send a strong current through the metal. The current created heat high enough to melt the ends of the copper cables. The melted copper ran together and when it cooled, it was permanently welded into one piece of cable. Thus the first welding machine was invented.
But according to PatentStorm.com, the electric welding machine uses a variable resistor to control a transformer and an inductor to maintain the electric arc stiff during welding. It was invented by Guo M. Guo and, according to PatentStorm.com; he filed a patent application in 1995.
