What is the difference between Shia and the Sunni Muslims?

Although both Shia And The Sunni are Muslims and they share the same Quran and both of them believe in Allah. But both of these differ in some of the beliefs of Islam. All the differences in the believe came up after the death of Muhammad, Shia doesn’t accept Hadrat Abu Bakr (RA) but Sunni accepts his Khalifa. Sunni rejects Matam but it is practiced by Shia Muslims. Shia believe that one the day when the end of this world will be near “Imam Mahdi” will come up as he is hidden somewhere in the world, but according to Sunni “Imam Mahdi” has not yet born.

Sunnis believe that Abu Bakr, the father of Muhammad’s wife Aisha, was Muhammad’s rightful successor and that the method of choosing or electing leaders (Shura) endorsed by the Quran is the consensus of the Ummah, (the Muslim community).
Shiites believe that Muhammad divinely ordained his cousin and son-in-law Ali (the father of his grandsons Hasan ibn Ali and Hussein ibn Ali) in accordance with the command of God to be the next caliph making Ali and his direct descendants Muhammad’s successors. Ali was married to Fatimah, Muhammad’s daughter.
