The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched operation “Rahat” on 18 June 2013, it has been launched to rescue stranded pilgrims in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh after heavy rains wreaked havoc in northern India. Due to heavy rainfall thousands of pilgrims are stuck in various valleys of Uttarakhandand and HimachalPradesh. Some helicopters have been deployed in the region for rescue work.
