Gears was a beta software developed by Google. It provides an offline access to the services which can only work online. It was having a database engine which was based on SQLite. This database was installed on the client machine to cache the data. With the help of gears, a web application co-ordinates the data in the local cache with the online services. If a network connection is not available, then this co-ordination will be delayed until the network connection is available again but unfortunately Google has discontinued this service.
