    The “Standard Generalized Markup Language” (SGML) is an ISO-standard markup language, which is used to define markup languages for documents. This language was developed by Charles Goldfarb, Edward Mosher, and Raymond Lorie and was launched in the 1960s. Currently, XML and HTML are the most commonly used markup languages and both of them are derived from SGML.
