    The “Internet Message Access Protocol” is the full form of IMAP. It is a protocol which was designed by “Mark Crispin” in the year 1986 to retrieving content from your mailbox. It acts as an interface between mail server and the user’s email. It supports both online and offline modes of operations and is one of the ways to manage your mailbox.

    The term IMAP stands for “Internet Message Access Protocol”, it helps the e-mail client/user to access the email from the remote servers. It is present in the application layer of the OSI model.
